Another Marley Masterpiece: Bad Dog, Marley!, written by John
Grogan, illustrated by Richard Crowley.
With the recent theatrical and DVD release of the film, Marley
and Me, most of America has fallen in love with the title yellow
lab. The book on which the film is based is a masterpiece of
storytelling. For all the little dog lovers out there, John Grogan
has also created a delightful children’s book based on his
best-seller.
Marley is an exuberant, trouble-making, havoc-wreaking dog with
the biggest of hearts. He terrorizes the neighborhood and tears
apart his owners’ home, but they love him all the same. Told through
a child’s point of view, Grogan’s popular book takes on a new life.
His heart-warming story is simplified so that the youngest of
toddlers can identify with daughter Cassie and Baby Louie.
For any family that owns a dog, this book is a must-have. Parents
and their little ones will laugh together at Marley’s antics and
cheer together when he saves the day. Toddlers whose best friend is
a Golden Retriever or big brother is a Schnauzer will find delight
in the amusing story and adorable illustrations. Even families
without a pet will laugh as Marley gobbles chocolate cake and
annihilates couch cushions. Despite his naughty behavior, no one
could resist such a lovable goofball.
In Bad Dog Marley, Grogan teaches a subtle lesson about
accepting others (even dogs) for who they are and loving our family
members unconditionally even if they’re not perfect. This beloved
book is sure to become a favorite on the bookshelf for years to
come.
