Amazon.com announced, on December 21, 2004, that customers can now pre-order the highly anticipated sixth installment in the Harry Potter book series, ensuring they can reserve their copies and be one of the first to receive the book. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6) will be released on July 16, 2005. 

Pre-ordering the book, of course, means customers can reserve the book in advance, and Amazon.com is offering it at $17.99 US—a 40% savings. 

Harry Potter fans have been eagerly awaiting a release date for the sixth Harry Potter book since "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"—the fifth book in the series and Amazon.com's largest pre-order ever—was published in June 2003. Now, Muggles everywhere can go to Amazon.com and, without leaving their home or office, ensure they'll be among the first to receive a copy of this wildly anticipated book when it hits the shelves in July 2005.

"Amazon received more than 1.3 million advance orders for 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' worldwide, and we know that customers can't wait to start reading 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,'" said Greg Greeley, vice president of Amazon.com's North American Media Products division. "We are delighted to offer them the simplest, most convenient way to reserve their copies immediately and be among the first to receive the book when it's released in July—as well as save 40 percent in the process."

The author has already said that the Half-Blood Prince is neither Harry nor Voldemort. And most importantly, the opening chapter of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has been brewing in J.K. Rowling's mind for 13 years.

Harry Potter's magic has touched a huge audience of all ages all over the world. In America, there are nearly 80 million books in print, and each title has been on the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists. The fifth title, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, has already broken records with its first print run of 6.8 million copies and a second print run of an additional 1.7 million copies, a figure unprecedented for any book.
