A
porcupine named Cushion in a petting zoo has definitely got a
problem! Whoever would pet a porcupine? While all of the other
animals got plenty of loving attention, Cushion bemoaned his
loneliness, singing a sad song in which he was "porcupining
for a wife". It doesn't take long before he sets out on a
search for a wife. His serenades, unbeknownst to him, are actually
rather offensive. He has no luck with the rabbits, the pig, or the
beaver. Finally, he meets a similar animal as him, Barb the
hedgehog, and his lonely days are over.
This book has a fair dose of both humor and alliteration--sure
to woo the intended audience and their parents.
Illustrations are lovely. This is a sweet tale that's just right
for Valentine's day -- or any day, actually.
