If
you are looking for a vocabulary boost in a foreign language for
your kids, this is an economical set that will do the trick. It is
not glamorous or especially unique, but, in a simple way, the
program gets the job done. There are 4 CDs to choose from, each
devoted to a foreign language -- French, German, Spanish, and
Italian. Each CD-ROM's format is similar. A Learn Mode takes kids
through a series of electronic flashcards. Each image -- whether
it's an object or an action -- is clickable for a pronunciation by
either a female or male. Text accompanies the picture and audio
clue for spelling and reading reinforcement.
Once
children have memorized the flashcards, they can move on to the
Game Mode. Three games help them to remember and practice their
new vocabulary at three different levels of difficulty. A point
system is awarded, and if kids work (or play!) hard, they can make
it to a bronze, silver, or gold medal. Finally,
a Record Mode allows kids to record their own voices with a
computer microphone (not included). They can play back their
recordings in a Cinema, which is great fun.
Pros:
- Clear pronunciations
- Simple and
straightforward format is effective
